Work Outfit: Bright Accessories for Summer (with a Manolo Blahnik BB Pump Review)

Summer Work Outfit // Pop of Turquoise
Jacket: Arden B. (old) | Skirt: Banana Republic (old, but similar style here in my favorite Sloan Fit) | Blouse: Ann Taylor Factory (recent, and with a lovely flutter sleeve detail) | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Bag: kate spade new york | Shoes: Manolo Blahnik BB Pumps (available via Saks or Nordstrom) | Lips: NARS 'Yu'

I'd been regretting missing my opportunity to take home a pair of Manolo BB Pumps when they were last on sale after Christmas (although I did end up grabbing the Carolyne Sling-Backs, which I love and have been wearing a ton). When they were back on sale at Saks recently, I decided on a suede pair in a fun aqua color for summer. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make them work for the office, but as long as I keep the rest of my palette fairly neutral, I think a bold, summery color fit right into my seasonal work wardrobe.

Manolo BB Pumps

The Manolo BB's, named after screen siren Brigitte Bardot, are an incredibly flattering shoe, and I found them to be surprisingly comfortable, especially for shoes that are narrower (my feet are not narrow!). Most of the higher-end department stores sell them in a wide variety of colors, heel heights, and materials. You can also design your own BB Pumps at Neiman Marcus. So far, I've stuck to purchasing most of my higher-end shoes on sale, but it's hard to tune out the siren call of the customizable BB's!

Note: I normally wear a 35-35.5 in this shoe brand. I was told to size down despite my wide feet, and the 35 ended up being the better size for me as this style seems to run a little long in the footbed.

Work Outfit for Summer

Although I generally try to stay away from accessories that are too "matchy," I loved how this turquoise bag and shoes looked together. With gray and beige in my suiting separates, and my subtly-printed blouse with its hints of turquoise, coal, and lavender, I thought the shoes and bag took the look up a notch.

One word of caution: when opting for bright accessories at the office, make sure the design of those accessories is clean and simple, like I did here with a sleek pump and classic structured satchel bag.

I'm very excited it's a short week this week! Hope you all had a lovely weekend and that my fellow Americans have fun plans coming up for the Fourth!

Heat Wave Chic

Dress: Anthropologie | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Shoes: Steve Madden (similar here and here) | Bag: Tory Burch (similar styles here, here, and here) | Necklaces: Brian Gavin, Theresa Mink | Watch: kate spade new york

After falling in love with the last Anthro Petites dress I purchased, I decided I'd try ordering another. I snagged this Empress Dress after it popped back in stock in my size and brought it to Chicago with me this weekend. I loved the mirror batik-style print and embroidered cutouts below the neckline--the kind of pretty little details that are the norm at Anthro. It was pretty and comfortable, but more importantly, it was light, which was great for the intense heat and humidity. (I am happy to to report that, despite the heat, it was a great trip--Chicago is such a fun city!)

Hope you had a lovely weekend, too, and that you're all staying cool!

Fiesta Stripes (an Anthro Petites Success Story)

Dress: Anthropologie (on sale--now an additional 20% off the sale price + available in both petite and regular sizing) | Sunglasses: Valentino | Shoes: Steve Madden | Bag: Coach | Necklace: Theresa Mink | Bracelets: David Yurman, J.Crew, F21, INPINK c/o | Watch: Michael Kors | Earrings: bought in Turkey

Anthropologie is having their big summer tag sale right now, so I thought I'd take advantage and order something from their petites line that I've been eyeing for a while. I ordered this dress in a 00P, and I was thrilled when it arrived and fit well right out of the box.

I don't own much from Anthropologie as their standard sizing has never worked for me, but I think I've become a convert based on the fit and look of this fun, colorful dress. I love that the shift style makes it appropriate for a more casual day at work or for an evening out at a taco-and-tequila bar (that's where I was headed right after these photos were taken!).

Stripe + Feather

Blazer: J.Crew | Dress: Forever 21 | Belt: Madewell | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Shoes: ALDO | Bag: Coach | Necklace: Theresa Mink | Bracelets: David Yurman , J.Crew, F21, INPINK c/o | Watch: Michael Kors

It's so nice to be on my computer right now and blogging instead of on my computer and working. It's been a long week!

I wore the outfit in these for a dinner out with friends last weekend. Summer is definitely in full swing in Denver! While it can be near 100 degrees during the day here, one of the things I love is how much temperatures dip at night. By the time we were walking home, I was happy I had this lightweight blazer with me.

I saw this blazer on Jean a few weeks ago (she also styled it adorably here), and after hearing from her that it ran small, I decided to run over and see if my J.Crew had one in stock, but there weren't any at the store in my size. Luckily, the Maritime Blazer is still available online, and it comes in other colors as well (I picked up this gray one, too). They're comfortable, lightweight, and perfect for adding a little polish to summer looks.

I'm looking forward to a lovely, relaxing weekend--how about you?

Another drive-by post from me today--seems like I've been doing a lot of them lately (sorry, guys!). Between the abysmal weather recently and craziness at work, it's been tough getting time to blog.

I've also plunged into exploring calligraphy lately and have been spending a lot of time writing with an actual pen (the kind you dip into an inkwell) and paper, which has been challenging (to say the least) but surprisingly fun and relaxing. I've always loved giving and receiving handwritten letters and cards, and I've been wanting to learn lettering and calligraphy for a while, so I went and bought some supplies on a whim and have totally fallen in love. I have found myself trying and learning so many new things since I started this blog, which is wonderful. The more I pick up new skills (photography, graphic design, coding, etc.), the more I want to learn! I think my blogging experience has been a major catalyst in finding the inspiration, motivation, and confidence to try my hand at some of the items--blog-related or not--that have been sitting on my things-I-want-to-try-one-day list.

Have any of you experienced this phenomenon? What inspires you to learn something new?

A Little Trend Salad

Sweater: J.Crew (similar here) | Tank: Urban Outfitters (last seen here) | Skirt: H&M | Leggings: F21 | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Belt: Vintage | Boots: Hunter (review here) | Bag: 3.1 Phillip Lim | Necklace: JenniJewel | Bracelets: J.Crew, ALDO, Boutique

As I finished getting dressed for a casual Sunday working at home and running errands, I realized I had thrown a whole bunch of different trends into my outfit.

I started with the comfy leggings I was wearing around the house in the morning and this cozy pink sweater, but since leggings < pants, I thought I should add a little length. Out came this skirt, which I had bought with New Year's Eve in mind, forgetting that NYE in Denver is always freezing, and therefore, a teeny skirt wouldn't really cut it. When I grabbed the skirt from my drawer, I saw this neon yellow lace tank I hadn't worn since last summer and thought it'd be perfect under my cozy cardigan. Since it had snowed on Saturday, warmer temperatures Sunday meant wet, slushy streets, so my galoshes seemed like a practical choice. My new Pashli has been going everywhere with me since it arrived last week (review coming soon), so that was added to the mix. And then what outfit isn't complete without lots of bracelets and trendy sunglasses? On they went, too.

In the end, I had to smile in spite of myself as I ultimately decided to throw Coco Chanel's advice (take one thing off before you leave the house) to the wind and wear a little trend salad. (Because why be a fashion blogger if you can't do that on occasion?)

5 Ways to Wear Yellow Pants

[Click on each outfit for additional photos and details.]

One of my favorite things to see on the blogs I read is how other ladies re-style their wardrobes, especially when it comes to seemingly hard-to-wear pieces. (I'll also admit I've always been a big fan of People Magazine's "I Really Love My" feature.) I thought I'd share one of my own with you today.

I'm considering making this a regular feature. What do you think, readers? Do you love seeing re-styled pieces as much as I do?
