A Day in Champagne

Reims Champagne Tour Outfit
Jacket: Zara | Blouse: J.Crew | Jeans: J Brand | Belt: kate spade | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Scarf: H&M | Shoes: Manolo Blahnik | Bag: Coach

From Paris, we took a day trip to Reims, the biggest city in the Champagne region. We headed out early from Paris on the TGV, the high-speed train system that reaches speeds of about 200 mph, so what would've been a two-hour drive was a quick and comfortable 45-minute train ride. I loved taking the high-speed trains throughout France and would definitely recommend traveling this way in Europe.

Our first stop was the cathedral in Reims, the place where French kings were crowned for centuries; it was absolutely gorgeous.

After wandering around the city and seeing the cathedral, we went to a couple of the big champagne houses for tours and tastings, including my personal favorite, Veuve Clicquot. It was so interesting to learn why the Champagne region is the perfect place for champagne-making (lots of moisture, temperate climate, and chalk soil). We loved touring the cellars and seeing how they've made champagne for centuries. Oh, and the tastings were pretty great, too.

Veuve Cliquot Visit

For this day of wandering around, sightseeing, and journeying into champagne caves, I decided jeans and my trusty leather jacket would be best. It was chilly underground, so I was glad I had layered a blouse and thin cardigan under my jacket and brought a lightweight scarf (which conveniently doubled as a blanket on the train!). I again wore my favorite Matt Bernson flats for most of the day, and changed into heels when we stopped at a restaurant to eat.

Hope you enjoyed these--photos from Provence are next on the schedule!

It was a chilly weekend in Denver, but spring is just around the corner. A bright-colored trench coat like the one I'm wearing here is a great transitional piece for breezy spring days.

Have a great week!

Coat: J.Crew (temporarily out-of-stock, but love this classic peacoat too) | Top: Limited | Jeans: J.Brand | Scarf: H&M | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Bag: 3.1 phillip lim, available at Barney's or Otte NY (read my review) | Socks: Nordstrom (no longer available, but I have my eye on these & these) | Boots: Frye Melissa Button (read my review) | Bracelets: David Yurman, Tiffany | Watch: Michele

Last week's warm weather quickly fizzled here in Denver, and it got very, very cold over the weekend (as it did in most of the country, it seems!). When it's this chilly, I love layering nice, thick over-the-knee socks over thin socks and skinny jeans to keep my legs toasty. A big, soft scarf also helps keep the chill at bay. Hope you're all staying warm!

A few more pics here from my trip to Arizona a couple weeks ago! Between my real job, a few calligraphy commissions (yup, I'm accepting commissions now--so exciting!) and darkness falling early, I haven't gotten to do as many outfit posts as I would like recently. I'm hoping I can make them more frequent in the coming months.

I wanted to let all of you know that I'm so thankful for all the support and love you've given me over the past two years. It has been wonderful to have this blog grow, and to get to know so many lovely bloggers, readers, and new friends. I hope all of you have a happy Thanksgiving!

Last week what a whirlwind kind of week--hope you didn't miss me too much here. I've been busy at work, but I've also been working on a few calligraphy projects lately. They have been time-consuming, but they are actually quite relaxing. I really like how rhythmic and meditative lettering is, plus sending out my final products to family and friends makes me so happy (from what I hear, it makes them happy too!).

I am thinking about blogging a little about hand-lettering and modern calligraphy. I have had lots of inquiries from you wonderful readers and Instagram followers asking where to begin and which supplies to purchase. The answers to these questions need much more than a quick email's worth of space (trust me). Please tell me which of the following four options you think would be best and would interest you the most.

Calligraphy Content Survey

1) Integrate calligraphy posts in this blog, which will still be much more personal style than calligraphy, but there would be a little calligraphy and lettering thrown in.

2) Move calligraphy posts to a second blog dedicated only to lettering.

3) I'm not really interested in looking at or doing calligraphy, but I don't really care where you put it.

4) I'm not really interested in looking at or doing calligraphy, and I'd rather not see it on this page.

I'd be so grateful if you guys would give me some feedback on this in the comments. I don't want to launch into something new without seeing if it will work for my readers. I am also re-opening anonymous commenting, so all of you who read but don't have a sign-in account can post to your hearts' content. Can't wait to hear what you think!

Blythe in Lilac

Blouse: J.Crew "Blythe" (check out a great review here from Kelly) (update:I'm wearing a 0P)
Jeans: J Brand | Belt: Vintage | Sunglasses: Karen Walker | Shoes: MICHAEL | Bag: Coach
Necklace: Ann Taylor | Bracelets: INPINK c/o, F21 | Watch: Michael Kors

One thing I absolutely love about Denver is that, nearly every year, there are a couple weeks during the dead of winter when it's suddenly warm and springy. I seized the opportunity to pull out this pretty lilac silk blouse (no jacket necessary!) for a middle-of-the-day stroll and some brunch. Heaven!
